Rebirth

The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid, for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified. He is not here; he has risen, just as he said. Come and see the place where he lay.

Matthew 28:5-6

Easter is my favorite holiday.  Here in the South, the dogwood trees start to bloom. Their delicate blossoms, like crosses, open up to the sky. Daffodils and tulips unfold and reach up.  Pops of pink and white crown azalea bushes.  The whole earth shakes off the doldrums of winter and becomes alive again.

There was a time in my life where I was in desperate need of a rebirth. My whole world was winter. Like in Game of Thrones, my winter stretched on and on and on.  But I was afraid of what the spring would bring, what would my life look like if I had a rebirth? How would I live?

Eventually though, my desperation led me to surrender, and God was able to do something with my rebel’s heart.

He gently reached into my life and started thawing out the stubborn know-it-all and showing me that it was possible to live in peace, without the constant nattering in my head or the sorrowful self-pity in my heart.

I started to experience God.  And each spring, each Easter, it’s an anniversary. I celebrate my relationship with Him. Like a loving husband He renews His vows.  It’s something I can count on. Just like I can count on the dogwood trees and the azalea bushes.

Still i rise

Just for Today

I will celebrate the opportunity for a do-over. I can decide today to accept the gift of rebirth and make a decision to try and change the things that are within my control.

Prayer

Thank you, God, that you keep giving me opportunities to heal and be re-made.  Help me to accept the beauty of your never-ending forgiveness and grace.   Help me to share it with your other kids.
