Authenticity

Cool means being able to hang with yourself. All you have to ask yourself is ‘Is there anybody I’m afraid of? Is there anybody who if I walked into a room and saw, I’d get nervous?’ If not, then you’re cool. –  Prince

I remember once being dismayed and frustrated that I wasn’t more subdued like one of my colleagues.   My friend told me that God made me the way that I am on purpose. God doesn’t want me to try and be like anyone else.

Becoming authentic requires trust and a deep connection. Trust in ourselves, and a deep connection to God. We need always to remember who we are and who’s we are.

Our parents, peers, society, all have these opinions of what we should be.  We have to shed shed those layers and discover our true selves. All the while we still need to be considerate of God’s other kids.

Just because God made me opinionated, doesn’t mean that I can cram my opinions down your throat.  Nor should I insist that you share my opinions. That would be highly disrespectful and very inconsiderate.

Balance humility and respect with authenticity.  There is no one else in the world like you. That is not to puff up the ego,  but to humbly recognize that you have a distinct voice and purpose to bring to this world.

Just for Today

Today, I will breathe in my true self and connect to my truest self. I will not be lured into believing I need to be like anyone else.

Prayer

God, thank you for making me exactly who I am. I ask that you would help me to uncover and connect to more of what you made me to be so that I can connect and be more helpful to you and the people around me.
